On Tuesday, November 7th, a delegation from Lahti County, Finland, an environmentally advanced city, visited Japan and held
the 2nd Global Special Seminar
, “Background to the success of Lahti County’s recycling business in Finland – The importance of environmental education (ESD)
. “
Since our first Global Special Seminar was held in November of last year, we have been deepening our ties with Lahti County, including signing a memorandum of friendship.
This second seminar was even more successful than last year, with more people attending.
First, Mr. Ikeda, Assistant Director of the Environmental Education Promotion Office, General Environmental Policy Bureau, Ministry of the Environment, gave a presentation
on the theme of “Towards the promotion of environmental education and ESD in Japan,” in which
he introduced the current state of environmental education in Japan and future efforts to enhance and expand “places for experiential opportunities” through public-private collaboration.

At the global seminar, a seven-member delegation from Lahti County representing industry, government, and academia spoke about environmental education and cleantech (environmental technology) in Lahti County.

This year, more than last year, speakers from industry, government, and academia presented more specific examples, making the seminar a great opportunity to find useful hints. We will
continue to work with Lahti County to promote environmental education and projects aimed at a recycling-oriented society.
