Recycled embankment material “NS-10” was first adopted as a raw material for store materials at “SHIRO Lumine Ikebukuro Store”
Ishizaka Inc. (Headquarters: Miyoshi-machi, Saitama Prefecture; President: Noriko Ishizaka) is pleased to announce that its “NS-10” embankment material, made from refined soil recycled from mixed construction waste, has been selected by Shiro Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Takahiro Fukunaga) as the raw material for countertops at the “SHIRO Lumine Ikebukuro Store,” which will be expanded and reopened on Friday, March 1st of this year.
While “NS-10” has primarily been used as road embankment and backfill material, this is the first time it has been adopted as a raw material for store materials.
Ishizaka Inc. jointly developed the “NS-10”
Ishizaka Inc. boasts an an industry-leading 98% reduction and recycling rate for intermediate industrial waste treatment. The core of its technology is the separation and classification of soil and sand contained in mixed construction waste.
Mixed construction waste is thoroughly sorted by machine and manual separation to remove foreign matter, and the resulting separated and classified soil is called “selected soil.”
This selected soil is then granulated and solidified to create a sandy fill material called “NS-10,” jointly developed with IS Engineering Co., Ltd. (Head office: Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture; President: Yasuko Ishizaka; hereinafter “IS Engineering”). In 2015, “NS-10” became the first waste-derived fill material in Japan to receive a Construction Technology Review Certification.
Following this, we continued our research and development to create further added value for recycled materials, and in September 2023, we constructed a fully recycling bio-toilet called “TOILETOWA” (Note 1) on the Ishizaka Inc.’s Site, using “NS-10” for the exterior wall materials.

“NS-10” is used in the construction of SHIRO stores
Now in its 15th year since its launch, the cosmetic brand SHIRO is working to achieve zero waste in order to achieve essential recycling (Note 2). Ishizaka Inc.’s vision of “Zero Waste Design” coincides with their philosophy of realizing a society in which all earth’s surface resources are recycled . “NS-10” was used for the countertops of the “SHIRO Lumine Ikebukuro Store,” which is being expanded and reopened as the first store aiming for zero waste.
The product visuals for “ZERO COLLECTION FRAGRANCE,” a limited edition fragrance created through new manufacturing methods that do not involve new production and which SHIRO launched in January, were also shot at Ishizaka Inc.’s recycling plant.

A circular model is realized in the renovated store.
The 1,210 kg (as of February 28, 2024) of industrial waste generated during the renovation of “SHIRO Lumine Ikebukuro Store,” including gypsum board, rubble, iron, and waste plastic, was 100% recycled through intermediate processing by Ishizaka Sangyo. Rather than simply renovating the store, the store is reborn through creative application of once-unwanted materials. In addition to using “NS-10,” the store is also using surplus construction materials as countertops and reusing rejected tiles from the inspection process for sales as wall tiles. The renovated “SHIRO Lumine Ikebukuro Store,” which uses recycled materials, embodies Ishizaka Inc.’s vision for waste recycling.
We will continue to promote the visualization of “Zero Waste Design,” which aims to achieve “zero waste” from the manufacturing and design stages of production.
