Noriko Ishizaka wins the Avon Woman of the Year Award 2018 Social Innovation Award

At the 39th Avon Woman of the Year Awards, our CEO, Noriko Ishizaka, received the Social Innovation Award.
The Avon Woman of the Year Award
was established by Avon Products, Inc. in 1979 with the desire to “support women who continue to engage in meaningful activities for society and continue to give courage and hope to people.”
The award “supports women who continue to walk the path they believe in with high aspirations, passion and drive.”
The award ceremony was held at a hotel in Tokyo on January 31st.
The Social Innovation Award is
given to women who propose creative and sustainable ideas and solutions to the various challenges and problems facing modern society.
At the award ceremony, newscaster and selection committee member Hiroko Kuniya
explained the reasons for the selection, stating that the company’s efforts to transform waste into resources and preserve satoyama (satoyama forests) into a reality of “coexistence between people, nature, and technology” were highly evaluated.

Upon receiving the award, Ishizaka said
, “When I became president, people around me said,
‘Women are too concerned with small details to make big reforms,’ and ‘They can’t bring about innovation.’
I kept asking myself if that was really the case.
Is innovation just about creating something?
I don’t think that’s the case.
Even if we can’t create something new, we can bring about innovation by changing people’s hearts and actions.
This is the belief we have always had, and we have acted on it to get to where we are today.
“We are extremely honored that this initiative has been recognized by the industry,” he
said in his greeting.

Additionally, the Avon Woman of the Year Awards donates an amount equal to the prize money of each award recipient to an organization recommended by the recipient, in the hope of supporting the future development of those involved and collaborating in the recipient’s field of activity.
Ishizaka
recommended the Miyoshi Town Social Welfare Council, a social welfare corporation that actively works to support households facing financial difficulties.
