[Circulation Design Master] Basic Course (Held regularly every month / 4 hours)

ACCEPTING
By walking through our state-of-the-art resource recycling facility and the biodiversity-rich satoyama, Santome Konjakumura, participants learn about “circularity” and “regeneration” through all five senses.
Insights gained during the visit are then organized in a post-tour workshop and translated into concrete action plans for each participant.
This is our most popular course, offering a comprehensive understanding of Ishizaka’s initiatives as a whole.

Considering environmental issues through the lens of waste as circularity professionals

As manufacturing technologies advance, society is becoming ever more convenient and abundant. At the same time, the waste being generated is growing more complex year by year.
In the orientation, drawing on our daily work as circularity professionals who deal with waste firsthand, we share the environmental challenges modern society faces—a story only we can tell.

Entering an age beyond sustainability, toward regeneration.
To adapt to what this new age demands, how will our work connect to the planet? Just what can do for the future of the earth?
Drawing on real examples from our own initiatives, we will think through these questions together.

Circularity through the lessons of satoyama

In the Edo period, Japan is said to have been one of the world’s leading circular societies.
Earlier generations had gratitude for nature and valued living in harmony with it, preserving and passing down the satoyama landscapes of Santome.

However, when the convenient age of mass production and mass consumption arrived, respect for satoyama was all but forgotten, and the area became a dark woodland littered with illegally dumped waste.
This sparked a thought in us.
“This can’t go on. We must not forget what truly matters.”
To restore the forests of Santome, we began by picking up the waste that had been dumped there. Little by little, wildlife started to return, and we were able to regenerate the area into a satoyama landscape rich in biodiversity. (In 2012, we earned the JHEP certification rating of “AAA,” and we have continued to receive an AAA rating in the renewal assessments in 2017 and 2022.)

What we choose to make, what we choose to buy, and how we choose to dispose of things all connect to the future we choose. What, exactly, can we do as consumers? Let’s explore this together through this one-day program.

A workshop that turns insights into action

This program goes beyond simply acquiring knowledge. By sharing the flashes of insight you experience during the tour, the training serves as first step toward proactive action for participants.

One person’s insight becomes everyone’s insight. From there, a new light of hope for is born to shape the future. We invite you to demonstrate your creativity.

We warmly welcome both individuals and groups.
Let’s think together about a way of living where people, nature, and technology coexist.
