Ishizaka Sangyo’s “Kunugi no Mori” receives JHEP certification and achieves the highest rank of AAA for the second time, a first in Japan
Ishizaka Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Miyoshi-machi, Saitama Prefecture; Representative Director: Noriko Ishizaka; hereinafter “Ishizaka Sangyo”) is pleased to announce that the “Kuugi Forest Satoyama Project” (Location: Kamitomi, Miyoshi-machi, Iruma-gun, Saitama Prefecture; hereinafter “the Project”) has received the first JHEP certification in Japan for the second time, achieving the highest rank of AAA (Triple A).
The JHEP certification system* is run by the Ecosystem Conservation Society-Japan (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Tomoyuki Ikeya), a public interest incorporated foundation, to objectively and quantitatively evaluate and certify contributions to biodiversity conservation. JHEP certification requires renewal every five years. This project achieved its first AAA certification in 2012, and was renewed in 2017. This marks its second renewal.
Ishizaka Sangyo has been promoting biodiversity conservation by promoting the circulation and conservation of satoyama through logging and regeneration, based on the traditional management of local satoyama. In addition, by opening the “Kuugi Forest of Mitomi Past and Present Village” to the public as a satoyama field, we provide visitors with a comfortable, relaxing space and a place for hands-on environmental education where they can interact with nature.

[About Santome Konjaku Village]
This environmental education field utilizes a satoyama (satoyama forest) that Ishizaka Sangyo reclaimed from a mountain of illegally dumped garbage. Formerly known as Santome Shinden, the village is open to the public to convey the culture and traditions of the region while also raising awareness of the importance of resource recycling for a sustainable planet. Surrounded by nature, the site is approximately the size of four Tokyo Domes, and various seasonal environmental education experience programs are held.
