Ishizaka Inc. becomes the first Japanese company to sign The Climate Pledge
Ishizaka Inc. (Headquarters: Iruma-gun, Saitama Prefecture; President: Noriko Ishizaka) became the first Japanese company to sign The Climate Pledge, jointly launched by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019. The company aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement’s target.
Ishizaka Inc., which operates an industrial waste intermediate treatment plant and Santome Konjakumura, an environmental education field, has adopted “Zero Waste Design*” as its vision for realizing a sustainable society. In December 2021, the company fully adopted renewable energy sources for its electricity generation. In February 2022, the company introduced Toyota’s new fuel cell vehicle (FCEV) “MIRAI” for its company vehicles. In addition to shifting to renewable energy, the company is also optimizing energy use and preserving satoyama covering an area roughly the size of four Tokyo Domes, with the aim of achieving net zero carbon emissions throughout its value chain.
Going forward, based on The Climate Pledge, we will work on the following three points:
● Regularly measure and report greenhouse gas emissions
● Implement a decarbonization strategy in line with the Paris Agreement through business transformation and innovation, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, raw material reduction, and other carbon emissions reduction strategies
● Add substantial, permanent, and quantifiable socially beneficial offsets to carbon neutralize remaining carbon emissions and achieve net-zero annual carbon emissions by 2040
