As local production and consumption gains attention across the country, some regions are achieving success by focusing on proposing eating styles that suit consumer needs, creating landscapes and environments, and renewable energy, and are beginning to make great strides towards a sustainable, recycling-oriented society.
This course will introduce examples of “linking biodiversity and agriculture” and agricultural-based food education experiences and the promotion of local industries, such as “Stork-raised rice” in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, “Oonomi Ecology Farmers” in Kochi Prefecture, and “Fukui soba,” and will also introduce efforts to “link food culture and business” in which a sustainable society and local pride connect people and drive small economies.

<Instructor Introduction>
