5/18 Forum on Living with Satoyama was held

On Friday, May 18, 2018, the “Satoyama Living Forum Vol. 2” was held at Tokorozawa Civic Cultural Center Muse and Ishizaka Sangyo.

This forum is an event hosted by the Satoyama Living Association, chaired by our company’s representative, Noriko Ishizaka.
Its purpose is to propose the value of Satoyama from a new perspective in order to preserve its irreplaceable value for future generations.

This time, we invited Masayuki Okuda, owner chef of the extremely popular restaurant “Al-che-cciano” in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, to join us in thinking up creative ideas for utilizing satoyama (satoyama forests) from the perspective of food and agricultural education.

In the first part [Satoyama Big Talk Event], Masayuki Okuda, Seiji Nakajima, Kosuke Motani, and Ishizaka took to the stage to discuss the value of Satoyama from various perspectives.

In the second part, [Ishizaka Sangyo Satoyama Experience Tour], the participants were given a tour of the Satoyama conservation activities that Ishizaka Sangyo is undertaking as an “environmental education field.”

In the third part of the event, Chef Okuda served up a “Satoyama Original Buffet.”
Participants thoroughly enjoyed the special Italian cuisine, available only on this day, which used indigenous vegetables from Ishizaka Farm.

This was a very valuable forum, where participants were able to experience the local traditions and climate through food and experience firsthand that humans also live in nature.
